Why should I hire a web designer? There are free options, right?

“98% of business owners who attempt to build their own website fail at the task and never launch a website at all” – US Small Business Administration

In addition to this fact, a great example used to answer this common question is by using the analogy of a wedding photographer. Sure, you can use your old DSLR camera to take wedding pictures, but wouldn’t you rather give it to a professional who has the experience and knowledge?

Many free options actually restrict core website features and the amount of content you can have on the site. To unlock those features, they make you pay a hefty recurring fee just to get full functionality. If you choose not to pay their monthly fee, many “free” website builders will put their ads on your website, which is how the company makes money from free users.

Another website says they can build us a site for under $500. How come other agencies are quoting over thousands for the same project?

90% of the time I had to fix someone’s website was because they decided to go with the cheaper option. This is not to say that cheap is always bad, but you do get what you pay for when you hire a web designer, and this is true for any other industry. Some shudder at the thought of paying thousands for a website. Many don’t believe me when I say some even go for 5-6 figures! Thankfully, I’m not in the business of ripping people off, but in the business of providing value.

What other services are included in the cost of developing my website?

Our highest valued service that is included in the base cost is SEO, or search engine optimization. Basic SEO includes submission of your site to the major search engines, and the setup of your primary meta tag information (Page Title, Description and Keywords). Additionally, your site is built from the ground up with search engine friendly technologies and methods.

What platform do you build your websites on?

We build a majority of our websites using WordPress, because it is fast, secure, and easy for you to add content or make changes in the future.

If your website requires eCommerce functionality, we recommend building your website using Shopify, which is a very powerful eCommerce platform.

Can you make changes to my existing website?

Yes! For all changes, we will provide you with an estimate before beginning the work and charge at our standard hourly rate.

How does payment work for your web design and development services?

Our preferred payment method is PayPal because it is easy for both parties, and secure. When a payment is required, we will send you a PayPal invoice via email.

For small projects, 50% of the estimated fee must be provided prior to beginning work, with the remaining payment due upon completion of the project. For larger projects, an initial payment representing one-third of the estimated total fee is required. The second payment is required upon the halfway point, with the final third due upon completion of the project.

Do I own the website once it is built?

Yes! Everything that we build will be 100% owned by you, and you own all the rights upon the final payment. Regardless of which web designer you end up going with, be sure to ask about ownership rights of the site. Unfortunately, many agencies will not tell you that you don’t own the website once it is finished. They will even charge you if you want to switch hosting or go with a different designer! Once the final invoice is completed with us, everything is yours and you can take the website wherever you want to go

Who will I work with during the project?

This is a great question to ask and you should ask it of any web design and development firm you are considering. Many firms will farm out work to freelancers or interns. Some firms give little or no access to clients who want to speak directly with their designers or developers. Our clients work closely with our crew of three, and will primarily be in contact with me. If I haven’t introduced myself, my name is Blake Zonca and you can find out more about me on my about page
